1. Kindergartens

Kindergartens in Hong Kong cater to children aged three to six. The focus is on holistic development and preparing children for future learning.

 

2. Primary Education

Primary schooling begins around age six and spans six years. Schools emphasize bi-literate and trilingual abilities (English, Chinese, Cantonese) and offer diverse learning activities to enhance students' skills and attitudes.

3. Secondary Education

Hong Kong's educational system has transitioned to a new academic structure since 2012, where undergraduate programs now last for four years instead of three. This change aligns Hong Kong's system more closely with global academic standards. The new structure aims to foster global citizens with academic excellence and an international outlook through interdisciplinary studies, service learning, exchange programs, and enriched learning experiences.

3. Non-Local Courses and Accreditation

Apart from local qualifications, there are over 1,100 non-local courses offered in Hong Kong by institutions outside the region. These courses lead to non-local academic or professional qualifications. Non-local courses must be registered or exempted under the Non-local Higher and Professional Education (Regulation) Ordinance and are monitored by the Non-local Courses Registry of the Education Bureau.
